Steenbergs Organic Dukkah is a complex mix of toasted seeds - natural chickpeas, natural coriander seeds, natural cumin seeds and natural sunflower seeds - and our own distinct mix of spices. At Steenbergs, we adoringly toast these seeds until they reach a light golden brown shade that boosts the flavours of them and provides a warmth. These natural seeds are then ground individually to offer a coarse, chunky texture and after that the remainder of the components are combined in.
Traditionally, natural dukkah is eaten by dipping fresh Egyptian baladi bread (pitta bread will do!) Into olive oil and then into the natural dukkah mix, but you can also utilize it to sprinkle over salads or veggies or as a crust for fish or chicken.
I really love natural dukkah - it's scrumptious as a sort of dry and slightly crispy hummus - the included component of cumin adds that scrumptious roasty flavour. Simply have a meal of olive oil and a meal of natural dukkah and some pitta bread and dip the bread into the olive oil followed by the natural dukkah mix. Works well as a crust on meat dishes; at home we made a fantastic nutty, breadcrumb mix that was utilized to coat chicken nuggets that was really incredible - see blog.
